10 Reasons Why Apple Bans Google from iOS 6

The new Apple operating system iOS 6 is still in the pipeline and is giving surprises to the industry everyday announcing features like Siri, a new share screen, etc. But the latest one to stun the world is the news that there will be no YouTube app in iOS 6. This came after Apple announced the replacement of Google Maps with its own Maps application, a couple of months ago.

The effect of this change would be to the users who now will be forced to watch YouTube videos from within the browser. It is clear that Apple wants to keep Google out of its operating system and hence from its devices.

Here are the reasons why.

1. They are Competitors

It is not very surprising that Apple wants to keep Google away from its devices. They have been the archrivals for a few years. Where iPhone is one of the largest selling Smartphone powered by Apple’s own iOS, Google powers more than half of the world’s Smartphones with its Android.

And now with the purchase of Motorola, Google is entering into hardware which is likely to prove a stiff competition to Apple. It is common business sense not to let a rival prosper in your territory.

2. Mapping is big business

Apple launching its own alternative to Google Maps makes complete sense as it is a great business. It makes a way for the people to a respective company’s products. By allowing iOS users to run Google Maps, Apple was giving the search company promotion of its brand, the Android mobile operating system. Moreover, it also allowed Google to earn advertising dollars from Maps and Search. Now that its own Maps application will replace in iPhones and iPads, Apple doesn’t need to worry about that anymore.

3. Don’t forget about Lala

Years ago, Apple acquired Lala, a music-streaming site, and immediately closed it. The question still haunts everyone, why it did so. Many assessed that it acquired the team to work on a streaming video service. With the announcement of YouTube ousted from iOS, it can be guessed that Apple is probably working on its replacement too, though it is just a speculation.

4. Apple vs Motorola

Apple is by no means happy with Motorola, even if it wasn’t owned by Google. In fact, Apple sued Motorola for patent infringement in its mobile devices. It’s entirely possible that Apple doesn’t want to partner with Google now simply because it owns Motorola.

5. Apple’s lawsuits revolve around Android

It might be possible that a key component in Apple’s decision to drop Google apps from iOS 6 could be its ongoing differences with Android vendors. Apple doesn’t want to look like it’s playing both sides by offering the same native applications as Android. By offering two applications of Google, it may prove to the judges that Apple doesn’t have that big of an issue with Android as it seems.

6. Could Apple be lining up a Google lawsuit?

There is also a possibility of Apple preparing for a lawsuit against Google. The decision of Apple’s fight with Samsung pending and is expected to turn in Apple’s favour. If that happens, it could take the battle to Google’s doorsteps. So, partnering with the company now would make that a bit more difficult.

7. Mobile advertising is in

Apple realizes that the future of the mobile space will revolve around intra-app ads, and it doesn’t want to give Google two places, i.e., Maps and YouTube, to use advertisement and earn cash from every iPhone and iPad owner out there.

8. Apple wants to leverage revenue opportunities

Taking into account mobile advertising, Apple surely wants to make some cash itself. Thanks to its iAd platform, Apple could integrate ads into its Maps application and any program it might use to replace YouTube. Apple’s revenue opportunities might even extend beyond advertising to other options, like virtual goods or company lists in Maps.

9. Apple wants to control

Apple is known for its control in the market. The company hates allowing other companies to impact the overall usability of its operating systems. As a result, Apple might have finally decided that all native applications running in iOS 6 should come from its own developers. If owners want anything else, they’ll have to go to the App Store to find it. This might just be another one of those decisions which revolve around Apple’s penchant for control.

10. Doing this with iOS 5 would have been a bad idea

If Apple would have ditched two popular mobile applications in iOS 5 and launched the barely updated iPhone 4S at the same time, critics would have hit it hard. But now that Apple is expected to launch a major iPhone hardware update this fall, the lack of a few popular competing apps might be overlooked.

No Jailbreak Needed: Verizon iPhone 5 Ships Factory Unlocked for GSM Carriers

And so, after plenty of overnight camping and hullabaloo, the Apple iPhone 5 has officially been launched into the mobile world. The assumption is that when you buy the iPhone 5 on subsidy that it’d be locked to that service provider. That’s mostly true, except when you buy it from Verizon, because it comes unlocked.

This has now been confirmed by the Verge. If you go out and buy the iPhone 5 from Verizon, assuming that you can find stock, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear that the iDevice comes fully unlocked right out of the box. What this means is that you can go ahead and replace that Verizon nanoSIM with one from AT&T or T-Mobile and have it work too. This is particularly useful if you are traveling internationally, because it means that you can pick up a prepaid SIM at your destination and avoid those nasty roaming charges. Of course, many carriers don’t have prepaid nanoSIMs yet, so you may have to break out the scissors and carefully snip the regular SIM or microSIM down to nano-sized proportions.

The good news is that the Verizon iPhone 5 should be fully compatible with the 3G network from AT&T. The bad news is that it won’t work with AT&T’s 4G LTE, since it uses different bands that Verizon. This also means that you’re likely stuck with 2G/EDGE if you pop in a SIM from T-Mobile, though Old Magenta is reportedly rolling out some iPhone-happy 4G HSPA+ coverage in cities like Seattle, Las Vegas and New York.

iOS 6 – Should you upgrade? What about jailbreaking?

Apple’s newest version of iOS 6 is finally here, but should you upgrade? There are many great reasons to consider an upgrade. The biggest are for the new Maps, SIRI upgrades, better Facebook integration, the use of Facetime over data and panorama mode for camera.

That’s far from all the upgrades in iOS 6, but the bottom-line is that there are many key improvements that make moving to the newest version worthwhile. What about jailbreaking, though?

Many consumers choose to jailbreak in order to get past the controlled and strict nature of the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Each time a new version of iOS comes out, hackers usually have to go back to the drawing board to make it work with the update.

This is why many jailbreak fans wait a while before upgrading. The good news is that iOS 6 has already been jailbroken, even though its only been public for 24 hours. The iPhone Developer Team has already made Redsn0w fully compatible with iOS 6. Great news, right? Mostly.

The iOS 6 Redsn0w jailbreak is only working with A4-powered iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod Touch. The 4S, iPhone 5 and new iPad are completely left out in the dark at the moment.
When it comes to jailbreaking, the iPhone hackers out there always seem to be on top of things. A fully functioning jailbreak on new Apple devices will likely be here before we know it. In the meantime, those with new iOS devices might want to hold off on an upgrade a bit longer.

Have a Redsn0w compatible iOS 6 device? Check out the link to Redmond Pie for a full guide on jailbreaking iOS 6 with RedSn0w.

Dell Latitude 10 Tablet Gives You A Tablet and PC All In One Package

Windows 8 is almost here, and that inevitably means plenty of new Windows 8 tablets, laptops and desktops in the near future- including Microsoft’s own Surface tablet. Another interesting looking offering is the new Dell Latitude 10 tablet. This 10.1-inch touchscreen tablet has a 1366×768 pixel resolution, is protected by Gorilla Glass and has a massive 128GB SSD, 2GB of RAM and a SD card slot.

The beefy new Latitude 10 also has dual cameras with HD on the front and a rear facing 8MP cam. Other standard stuff is microUSB for charging, USB 2.0, HDMI and audio out. Unlike most tablets though, Dell’s new Intel-driven tablet also has an Ethernet port. In today’s wireless driven world, this might not be necessary, but it’s still a nice extra.

So why would you consider something like this over a premium Android tablet or iPad? The biggest reason is that you care about Windows-compatible apps.

While ARM-based Windows tablets won’t run old-school Windows programs, Intel-based devices like the Latitude 10 will. This is probably most important in the business world where you need custom in-house applications and programs that are designed around Windows. This gives you an easy way to access them in tablet form without re-writing company programs for Android or iOS.

It’s also worth noting that this Dell tablet features a dock that basically turns it into a full all-in-one PC. All you need is a keyboard and mouse added. This means that you will be able to fully do all the things you could do with a low-to-mid range desktop or laptop.

So why wouldn’t you get one of these things? Either you don’t care about Windows compatibility or you don’t want to pay $1000+ for a tablet. Simple as that. Is $1000+ too much to ask for the Latitude 10? Depends on how you look at it. In a way you are getting a full PC and a tablet in one, thanks to the Intel processor and Windows compatibility. Looking at it that way, it’s a pretty decent value for those that want something that can serve dual purposes.

No official word on pricing yet, but a $1000+ price tag is more than likely. As for release, Dell says it will arrive around the same time as Windows 8. This means it will hit the market in a month or so. What do you think, interested?

Samsung Gearing Up for the Galaxy S4, so says rumor

Even though the Samsung Galaxy S3 hasn’t even been on the market for six months yet, it seems the first rumors regarding the Galaxy S4 are starting to already surface.

According to the Korea Times, Samsung officials and local parts suppliers have confirmed that Sammy is preparing to announce the Galaxy S4 in February at next year’s Mobile World Congress. The global launch for the S4 would supposedly take place no later than March.

It’s September, so why a leak about an announcement that is roughly five months away? It’s all about generating hype, enough hype to slow down iPhone 5 and keep Android users from considering Apple’s latest smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a rather powerful piece of hardware, so what could possibly be next for the Galaxy? It seems that Samsung will utilize a quad-core Exynos with LTE, a 5-inch OLED display, possibly flexible display technology and will feature a rectangle shape with extremely rounded corners- like other Galaxy S devices before it.

The rumors claims that Samsung will also offer modified designs for specific U.S. Carriers. In short, the S4 will be bigger, fast and stronger than the S3, though it will likely look somewhat similar in overall shape and design.

Could there be other ‘killer’ special features that have yet been leaked? Of course. Keep in mind that this is a rumor, so take the little information found we have heard about the S4 with a grain of salt.

What new features and technologies would you like to see in Samsung’s Galaxy S4?

A web platform for Sell, Purchase , exchange and many more

Campusa2z Network is a public website with the purpose of connecting textbook buyers and sellers so that they may purchase or sell their books in person or through the mail. The intended audience is individual college students, though anyone may use the site to buy and/or sell text books.
Campusa2z Network is unique among other book sales websites in that it provides a way for users to find other students within their own school, program of study, and/or geographic area. This allows users the option to complete transactions in person and avoid the hassles and fees involved in shipping and online payment methods. It allows sellers to leave a book available for sale indefinitely (as opposed to a fixed-length auction site). Sellers may also set a desired price and accept or reject offers.
Campusa2z Network is also unique in that it is free to use for both buyers and sellers. A fee is only charged if you use CampusXchange to collect payment on your behalf for the books or items on the site.
Campusa2z Network has two different types of users: Guests (anonymous visitors) and registered users. Registered users may be buyers and/or sellers at any given time. Guest can only browse.
Campusa2z Network’s primary aim is to enable person to person exchange whenever possible within an student community of a University Campus. Buyers and sellers are put in contact with each other through the forms provided on the website and they are prompted to follow a series of steps in order to buy or sell books. All transactions utilize usernames, so the e-mail addresses are concealed until the transaction has successfully completed.
When personal can also collect payment for any transaction on behalf of the users, if so required.
Why Use Used Books?
The rising cost of higher education means higher financial burden on everyone. Paying for a higher education these days is not easy. In addition to paying today’s steep tuition prices, students are required to invest in prescribed text books. At the end of the term, once you’re done with those books, they’re of no use to you anymore. They are virtually of no use to you. That was until now. Instead of making that money sit in your bookshelves, you could now sell your textbooks to your friends that will take the same course in the next term. It will get you cash that you can use to buy other text books for your new course. This is a win-win situation for everyone. We aim to reduce the cost to successfully complete your studies.
Depending on what you’re going to be majoring in, you may have to take a very broad assortment of classes ? This usually means a fairly high textbook bill! Whether you need a math textbook, chemistry textbook, or an economics textbook, you’ll be able to save a considerable amount of money by recycling them to other students in your departments instead. Used textbooks can save you a little cash, but you’ll save even more money by buying or selling the books that you need locally.
RapidPRotect-- A best family tracking mobile app
Rapidsoftsystems-- A software and Hardware development Company, USA
On paper, buying a used textbook may seem like a wise financial decision. Unfortunately, there are not many avenues to buy and sell it. So campusa2z.com is designed to do just that.
Looking for used textbooks? Look no further. campusa2z Network guarantees quality used textbooks at competitive prices, and we have over 5 Million used and new books.

Motorola announces three new Droid smartphones

Motorola has announced a high definition version of the Droid RAZR, on the same day that Nokia announced its new Lumia smartphones.

Motorola announced three new devices, the RAZR HD, the RAZR Maxx HD, and the mid-range RAZR M.

The company was recently bought by Google but has been quiet for several months.

The new RAZR HD sports a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution 1,280 x 720 display — about 312 pixels per inch. That is an upgrade from the current Razr, which has a 960 x 540 display.

The phone has a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor like the Nokia Lumia 920. Motorola claims that the Razr HD has colour saturation that is 85 per cent better than Apple's iPhone 4S.

It has a better battery life than the Samsung Galaxy S III with about 16 hours of talk time.

The MAXX version boasts 21 hours of talk time, 27 hours of music streaming over LTE and 10 hours of video streaming over LTE

During the launch, the chief executive of Motorola, Dennis Woodside, said that the launch of the new phones and the connection with Google represented the start of the "new Motorola".

The event, in New York, included an appearance by Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google. The phones all use Google's Android operating system.

The RAZR M has a 4.3 inch screen which will offer 40 per cent more screen size than the iPhone 4S. It includes an 8 megapixel camera and 8GB of internal storage

It will sell for $99 and will be released in the United States next week. Release dates and prices for the other two phones have yet to be announced.

Motorola in the UK has suggested that it will be launching a new Intel-powered device in the UK on September 18. There are rumours that this refers to the Droid Razr M arriving in the UK.

iPhone 5. Because Of Reasons.

If the invite sent out this morning by Apple is any indication, the next iPhone is likely to be called the “iPhone 5″. No, it doesn’t technically make sense — it is the sixth iteration of the iPhone — and yet, at the same time, it makes all the sense in the world. It’s the iPhone 5 because that’s what everyone is calling it. Sometimes it is that simple.

Sometimes.

Horace Dediu dove into Apple’s naming conventions earlier and lays out an argument that Apple may stick with the generational naming because there will be no iPhone sub-brand. This is in contrast to the iPad, which started out with generational naming — hence, “iPad 2″ — and then reverted back to simply “the new iPad” with the latest iteration. The thinking there is that because Apple is gearing up to release another version of the iPad, the so-called “iPad mini”, there was a need to streamline the top-level product.

Maybe.

I’m just not sure it’s that complicated. It seems to me that Apple is less calculated when it comes to these decisions — which itself is a bit odd because Apple seems calculated in just about everything else it does. I believe that sometimes the company simply goes with what sounds right at the time. Sometimes at the last minute. Remember the iPhone 3GS? Remember how it started as the “iPhone 3G S” — yes, with the space — before Apple later changed it?

And while it’s speculation at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some debate quite recently as to whether or not to call this next iPhone the “iPhone 5″ or follow in the iPad’s footsteps and simply go with “the new iPhone”. With only a week until the unveiling, I’m sure they’ve made the call by now, but a few sources still weren’t sure which way it would go.

“The new iPhone” has been the sexy pick for months amongst those who closely watch Apple. And again, given Apple’s other product lines and the new iPad, it makes sense. And it certainly seems to make more sense than “iPhone 5″, because of the generational misalignment. But I’m just not sure Apple is looking at it that deeply.

The move to “the new iPad” has been confusing. I’ve been asked more than a few times by friends and relatives who don’t follow technology as closely if the iPad 2 is actually newer than the new iPad. Numbers don’t lie, after all — except when they do. “2″ is greater than no number, but the $399 price of the iPad 2 directly contradicts this notion since the new iPad starts at $499. For the average consumer, this is confusing.

Yes, it’s a temporary confusion, since it only matters until the iPad 2 goes out of circulation (which could be as soon as this fall with the launch of the iPad mini). But I’m not sure it’s something Apple wants to deal with again, to a much larger extent, with the iPhone — the product responsible for just about half of its revenue.

You can imagine the conversations: Yes, the “new iPhone” is better than the iPhone 4S, which is better than the iPhone 4. Yes, even though it doesn’t have a number.

“Just look at the price” is not a good argument.

Meanwhile, amongst average consumers, the “iPhone 5″ would be a natural transition. It has been the presumed name for two years now, since Apple threw a not-so-curveball with the “iPhone 4S” last year. Some people have been waiting for this mythical “iPhone 5″ all this time.

Further, it is certainly possible that Apple intends to follow the “iPhone X” and “iPhone XS” (“X” being some number) naming strategy going forward. This was the rational argument made in a MacRumors forum posting a few weeks ago. I’m still not completely sold, since Apple seems to change what the “S” stands for over time and depending on who you talk to. But it’s possible.

At the end of the day, the name Apple ultimately chooses is purely for marketing purposes. Look at the back of your current iPhone. What does it say? “iPhone”. That’s it. The same will be true with the next iPhone, I’m told.

The only time you see the actual name is when you plug it in to sync with iTunes (which you no longer have to do), and on the product box. (By the way, the box circulating around with “the new iPhone” engraving is clearly a fake: notice the since-excommunicated YouTube icon? Yeah. Also, the new iPad box simply reads “iPad”.) And, of course, in the commercials.

It’s marketing. As far as 99 percent of the rest of the company is concerned, it’s simply the iPhone.

So where does that leave us? Well, again, it seems clear from the invitation that Apple intends to call the device the “iPhone 5″. The “12″ indicating the date of the event casting a “5″ shadow is clever. But I still believe there is some wiggle room for Apple to hint at what’s coming without being stuck with the name necessarily (and I’m not the only one). We’ll see.

The point is that we’ve all been arguing semantics on something that ultimately comes down to marketing. Remember Ocean’s Twelve? It wasn’t the 12th film in the series, it simply followed Ocean’s Eleven. Maybe it’s best to think of it that way.

As an aside, while speaking of “11″ — I’m perhaps most interested in the in-the-works for sometime now iTunes 11. Whispers have a team from Facebook in Cupertino, actively engaged in the ongoing development. That clearly seems to confirm the end of Ping, but also — hopefully — a completely reworked experience. Be warned: there have been many false-starts here. So it’s not clear if we’ll hear more next week, next month, or alas, next year.
